Bula!<br />
Staying at the JM Cousteau Fiji Resort in May of 2010 was one of the most relaxing experiences I had enjoyed in a couple years. I stayed in both the Villa and their Honeymoon Bure with jacuzzi on the deck. The service and food were both spectacular. In Melissa fashion, I packed up my kayak with a bottle of french champagne and paddled out to MY private island for a perfect late morning/early afternoon awaited me. The resort boat came out and brought my massage therapist so I could receive a pampering massage under sway palms. My picnic lunch was gourmet to say the least. I am looking forward to my return visit to this most enchanting Fiji resort. I have just a few words to say about this really wonderful condo property I just stayed at, here on my island home of Maui. The <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Kaanapali</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Alii</span>, 4 Star Condo, is smack dab in the heart of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Kaanapali</span> Resort. For some people, that may not be a good thing, but for those that enjoy being within walking distance to shopping (Whaler's Village is almost next door) and a very eclectic array of dining options, this resort is in the PERFECT location. The new pools (pictured here) really changed the feel of this property. There is even a "quiet pool" for those folks who prefer not to have kids in the pool they are enjoying. Another GREAT touch. Each unit is decorated by it's owner so no 2 are alike. The Premium units have more upgrades and are highly recommended (by me :)<div>The <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Alii</span> (as we call it), is operated like a hotel with a bellman, daily maid service, room service provided by the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Westin</span> (a limited menu but not bad at all), 2 spa treatment rooms (operated by the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Westin</span>) that are located in their NEW and fantastic gym, AND signing <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">privileges</span> at the Westin and Marriott (both next door to the Kaanapali Alii). The facial I received while I was there was fantastic (and I receive quite a few facials in my work). </div><div><br /></div><div>Okay, this was just a NEWSFLASH. Now back to my Fiji reviews.. Namale Resort & Spa is next. And then.. watch for another NEWSFLASH about Maui's Puunoa Luxury Condo in Lahaina, right on the ocean!</div><div><br /></div><div>See you later. We had stumbled upon this gem way back in 1992 (before Travel Agency), and spent 4 lovely nights at this, then, 6 Bure resort in the jungle on the ocean. There was not much else in Savu Savu in those days. We drove up in a 4 wheel drive rental jeep, parked, and never left the resort for 4 nights. That was in 1992. My visit this time was 18 years later, and I can quite honestly say, that even though there have been an incredible amount of changes over the years, it still feels the same to me. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">I have visited Namale Resort & Spa often over the last 18 years. Each time, I spend a bit of time trying to locate my/our "farewell" stone, the cement block you write in (wet), upon your departure, and placed somewhere on the grounds of the resort. Inevitably, I find some of my staffs "moce stones" (moce - pronounced Moe -they and means goodbye). This time I spent little time looking for the past, as my future lay ahead, at the Duvata Grand Villa. All of those hot days at the outdoor conference, and the last 3 years (it had been that long since I had visited), I have been dreaming of Duvata :) </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Stay tuned-I'll be back later to add to this post. I have to scoot to Kaanapali. I have alot to say about Namale and it's all great! One tip I would like to give you here is PLEASE be sure to back up your computer back up (yes, double back up). Unfortunately, both my laptop harddrive and back up drive went south a few days ago, so pictures will be a little late in coming. I have no choice but to PAY to have my hard drive scanned, or my 5 weeks in Fiji, a photo journey, won't be the same. Sota Tale.. see you later. As I had known all along, the stay at the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Sofitel</span> Fiji Resort & Spa was all about work and not play as it was our working hotel for the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Bula</span> Fiji conference we attended (one of my staff, Mike Brown, and myself). Up every morning, sneak in some emails and off to the Conference, outdoors, under the hot sun, in the almost perfect bone dry weather that <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Denarau</span> is known for (great weather for a vacation but ?? an 8 hour outside conference?). Personally, indoors and air conditioning would have worked very well for me, a 50 something woman, experiencing.... well.... Gosh, is it hot in here or is it me? :) No such luck. Every 15 minutes, the bell dings and we have to move on to the next booth.. another resort or something even more exciting (truly), the zip line booth with video footage of the next "day adventure" I want to enjoy in Fiji! Boy oh Boy, I do love to <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">zipline</span> (we have 5 on Maui, 5 on Kauai and 1 on the Big Island) and now Fiji has 2 of them! Don't get me wrong. I LOVE visiting all of the resort booths. Most are from Fiji, but I make a point to visit the booths from Samoa, Tahiti, <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Papua</span> New Guinea, Tonga, Vanuatu, Cook Islands and.. American Samoa and Tuvalu......... If you have ever heard of the fabulous pacific rock group, <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Tevaka</span>, then you are familiar with a wee bit of that culture through music. I adore <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Tevaka</span> music and their music DVD. I am an islander at heart. Okay back to business! <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">Sofitel</span>..<div> </div><div>I really like the Sofitel and try to stay there every time I'm coming through Denarau, if possible. The rooms are comfortable and updated. The Spa is wonderful and I love the breakfast Buffet (with the strolling Fijian Serenaders) and V restaurant (fine dining). Mostly, I love the people that work there. And even though this trip was a working conference, I liked it as much as ever. </div><div><br /></div><div>Day 8-10, Namale Resort & Spa, The Garden of Eden revisited--next! </div><div><br /><div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div></div>Melissa McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931706480199449197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7851123797309639284.post-61280485610406558472010-07-02T08:23:00.011-10:002010-07-05T17:12:37.952-10:00Fabulous Fiji - It feels good to be home!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFfQLXbnCcKbZhNVl_t2hOFhFExPi1DFg2AlImLI2xsQ9c1EdBwSJguTjpr3A8yblrwpXKuuVTIyx4ZSYK0co0_SqrnxMyni0udbWIDfmoq_7ZSBI5FYhxp2DNcAwnsJD6fKSoKjeGz3o/s1600/CastawayBeachToys.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFfQLXbnCcKbZhNVl_t2hOFhFExPi1DFg2AlImLI2xsQ9c1EdBwSJguTjpr3A8yblrwpXKuuVTIyx4ZSYK0co0_SqrnxMyni0udbWIDfmoq_7ZSBI5FYhxp2DNcAwnsJD6fKSoKjeGz3o/s200/CastawayBeachToys.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489407479670958354" /></a><br /><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Bula</span> and Vinaka for joining me while I fondly <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">reminisce about</span> my recent Epic Journey to and through the delightful Fiji Islands. 35 nights in Paradise.<div><br /></div><div>Day 1 - </div><div>I was late leaving my house to get to the airport. A 1 hour drive "if" there are no traffic issues, just happens to be one of my favorite drives on Maui. I try not to be late when driving from/to my home/home office, so I can relax and enjoy the panoramic vista of Maui's valley. Rolling hills, dotted with horses, grazing cattle and sheep, Norfolk pines and the stately West Maui Mountains surrounded by the sparkling crystal blue ocean on 3 sides and now, this time of year, much of the upper Haleakala Hwy is lined with the breathtaking purple blossoms of the Jacaranda trees. Leaving home to travel to far off destinations can be bittersweet. I have to pinch myself at the beauty before me. However, once I am on the big plane that will transport me to the Happy Smiley Fiji Isles, the subtle shift in gears begins. My breathing slows and I can feel my insides start to glow with soft remembering, anticipation, and I say my Fiji prayer, "Thank you for bringing me home, to Fiji, where my spirit and Fiji's are kindred in so many ways. Vinaka, Amene"</div><div><br /></div><div>When I first step foot off the plane, and the fresh air caresses my face, I smell the softness and the exotic fragrance in the air, I know I am home. Those smells swiftly waft to my brain, where all of the wonders of my 50++ past trips to Fiji have been catalogued. YES! I love this first breath of fresh Fiji air. Moving right along, I stop to purchase 2 bottles of Fiji Rum from Duty Free. One bottle is for Panto, who use to be my driver, with Rosie's Tours, while I was "in town" in Nadi. Although Panto has moved on to be the main driver for the Intercontinental Natadola, we are still in contact and I bring him Rum, which he and his wife enjoy sipping together and "relaxing" :) The second bottle is for me to take with me while I travel in Fiji. I have been doing this for nearly 20 years. The older I get the worse the Rum tastes. This may have been the last year for me to hang on to this tradition. Once out of Immigration/Customs, Rosie's Tours is waiting to greet me with a flower garland (Salu Salu), big smiles and to whoosh me off the my first hotel, The Westin Fiji at Denarau Island .</div><div><br /></div><div>The Westin use to be the Regent Fiji, back in the beginning of time (well, my time traveling to Fiji). The Westin has maintained it's understated elegance (Regent Fiji years) with the use of Fiji dark woods and many artifacts strewn throughout the lobby. The Regent was the first resort I stayed at my first time in Fiji in 1986. The swim up pool bar looks as inviting as ever and the general feel of the resort is lovely. And I do LOVE those Heavenly Beds! Although I did not go to the Spa this time, they have done a super job in creating a unique Spa environment with some excellent treatments. This was a quick stay for me as I was off early in the AM to Castaway Island Resort. </div><div><br /></div><div>In 1986, I journeyed from the Regent Fiji to Castaway, just like I was planning on this trip. However, today we were driving to Denarau Marina to catch the ferry, Tiger cat 4. In 1986 the boat came right up to beach in front the Regent and picked us up to take us to Castaway. I enjoyed the 1.5 hour ferry ride in the Captains Lounge with A/C. I do enjoy my air conditioning mixed with fresh air :) </div><div><br /></div><div>I've been to Castaway a few times over the last 20 years. I really like their current upgrades and colors in the Bures, etc. Castaway is small enough to give it the charm that is expected with small boutique resorts in Fiji, and big enough to have plenty to do to keep everyone happy. My Bure was extremely comfortable with great breezes (and Air conditioning as needed), comfy beds, nice views of the gorgeous ocean and beach (I was in an oceanview bure). I was especially impressed with the evening Dining experience and think that Castaway has really upgraded to new levels in the F&B department. I did not have time to indulge in the Spa, but I have heard good things about it and think the garden location offers serenity and privacy.</div><div>Overall, in my quick one night "site inspection", Castaway is a fantastic small resort, lovely views of the outer islands (One of them is where Tom Hanks filmed in "Castaway"), great ocean for playing and ocean recreation (including hobie cats), super friendly staff and management (that are a reflection of the owner of the resort), excels at balancing the great family vacation experience and those on a romantic holiday. The only problem is that I was not there long enough to really dig in and truly get to know the resort. I'm sure we will make my next visit to Castaway, a longer stay. On this trip, I was able to enjoy 3 resorts for extended stays. Keep your eyes peeled for JM Cousteau Resort (5 nights) , Taveuni Island Resort (9 nights) and Matagi Island Resort (4 nights). </div><div><br /></div><div>Next: Mana Island Resort and Spa. </div><div>The short boat ride from Castaway to Mana gave me a chance to enjoy the ocean and views of the outer islands in the Mamanuca Island Group. There are lots of stunning reefs in this area and many shades of blues and greens. I love my Maui Jim Polarized sunglasses as it makes this fabulous scenery completely awe inspiring with my sunglasses on. Oh, what would life be without polarized sunglasses? Upon arrival at Mana, I was swooped away to be massaged at their new Spa. I was Wow'd as I entered the Spa area with 4 Spa Thatched Bures (bungalow treatment rooms) in a lily pond setting with gigantic towering trees providing shade. It was a gorgeous setting. My massage was quite good and all of the facilities were new and modern. </div><div><br /></div><div>Mana's beaches and snorkeling were the best kept secret but the word is getting out. South Beach is on the windward side, so it tends to be a little cooler (because of the wind). The Honeymoon Bures are on this beach. I LOVE the Honeymoon Bures. The evening dining experience at South Beach Restaurant is my favorite. I thoroughly enjoyed the outside deck for the breakfast buffet on North Beach. For walking and snorkeling at high tide, Sunset Beach is incredible. My stay at Mana was only one night so I was not able to relax into the resort and get to know it better. However, I can say that Mana has some excellent values and nicely upgraded rooms, Bures and dining. </div><div><br /></div><div>NOTE: We have some wonderful exclusive vacation offers to all of these resorts and most resorts/villas in Fiji. Yes, it was mostly a work journey, filled with lots of moving around and connecting with the Staff/Mgmt/Owners of resorts in Fiji. That is, afterall, what I do. But who can argue with the wonderful experiences, really neat people, dining delights (food is SO important), sensational eclectic beauty and overall knowledge that were mine, after 12 resorts, and 35 days? Add 5 more resorts that I sight inspected and I had a pretty busy schedule, overall. It all started with a 2.5 week plan to attend the annual Bula Fiji conference in Nadi, which included a few extra days in Fiji. I REALLY had wanted to be in Fiji longer, but these are busy times, keeping ahead of the economy, and I could not fathom how I could stay any longer. My staff had been to Fiji more than I had over the last 2 years, so we were kept up to date on all things Fiji. Now it was my turn. Little did I know what was to come. I can guarantee you that it was not only good for the company, but GOOD for me, and infused me with the pizzaz that my job requires! I love doing lots of fun activities, relaxing and doing nothing, sampling culinary delights, and watching how other guests are enjoying their stay at the various resorts I am staying at. And, I love taking photos of everything standing still. And if it is NOT standing still, I'll video it :)</div><div><br /></div><div>The original plan was this........ 1 night Westin Denarau, 1 night Castaway, 1 night Mana, 4 nights Sofitel, 2 nights Namale, 3 nights JM Cousteau, 2 nights Vatulele and 1 night Intercontinental Natadola.</div><div><br /></div><div>Stand by, as this is the beginning of the beginning, of my 35 days in Fiji. The next post will be about the Westin Fiji, Castaway Island Resort in the Mananuca Islands and Mana Island Resort and Spa, covering my first 3 nights in Fiji. Don't be surprised if you find yourself face to face with a little Coconut Culture poetry, photos, video and other misc meanderings which I am known for. Sota Tale (see you later) Moce (goodbye) Melisha (how they say my name in Fiji)</div><div>Oh, and don't forget, we hope to hear from you to plan your next Fiji, Tahiti, Hawaii or other fabulous vacation 1-800-256-4280 (we are here in Hawaii). I've been on the island of Taveuni for 9 nights (including tonight). All I can say (and there will be much more to come), is I'm smitten and never want to leave!! Tomorrow I move on to Taveuni Palms for 2 nights and then to Matangi for 4 nights where they are going to lovingly re-introduce me to scuba diving (it's been about 4-5 years since I have been diving). I've been in Fiji for 4 weeks and have been remiss with my reviews and sharing. Don't fret, I'll get around to sharing ALL of it with you SOON. In the last 4 weeks I have been to the following resorts: Castaway, Mana, Sofitel, Westin, 2 nights at Namale, 5 nights at JM Cousteau, 2 nights at the new Intercontinental Fiji at Natadola, 2 nights at Qamea, 9 nights at Taveuni Island Resort. After 4 weeks here in Fiji, I finally bought a wireless Cell card and have been on the go with pretty good access for posting my reviews, etc. Stay tuned if you would like to find out about all of the properties and areas I have visited AND some of the very EXCLUSIVE RATES/values we have for you at many of these incredible resorts. Many resorts ARE selling out in June-October so don't wait to give us a call in Hawaii at 1-800-588-3454 or email vacations@mccoytravel.com. Of course visit our website: http://www.fiji-islands.com. A nice addition of Luxury in almost the heart of Waikiki, the Trump Waikiki is maintaining the Trump tradition of service, pampering, food and beyond. The Residences at Trump start at the Studio level to over the top 3 bedroom 2 story dream suites. I tried out "Trump" a few different ways on my stay there in February. I had to discover what it was like to sip champagne while soaking in the deep bathtub, with an oceanview, from my 1 bedroom suite :) And then I heard that little "room service" voice in my head, refusing to leave me alone until I called and ordered Eggs Benedict and fresh OJ. It's my preferred resort room service breakfast. Often times, when traveling with my best girlfriend Sue, we'll combine the champagne and eggs benedict for breakfast. Since I was traveling Solo and working hard to inspect all aspects of Trump Waikiki, I separated the two experiences. Well, it's difficult to drink champagne while soaking in the bathtub (with an oceanview) and eat eggs benedict!!! Speaking of bathtubs, I love the bathrooms at Trump. Groovy showers, deep tubs (only some units have ocean views from the bathtub), simple but elegant. And, as a bathrobe connoisseur,<div>I believe that Trump Waikiki has TRUMPED all others in Hawaii. Just so you have some insight about my bathrobe "interests", after the bellman has brought my things to the room, I head straight for the bathroom to see if the bathrobe is snugly, soft, luxurious..... so I know if I have something to look forward to later in the day. I do have one other hotel on Oahu whose's bathrobe might be tied for best. Maybe! At home, I usually wear "logo" bathrobes I have bought at places like Cousteau Fiji, Yasawa Island Resort and Qamea. But when I visit the resorts in Hawaii, I love the snuggle factor, soft to the touch, and good fit to enjoy while lounging in my air conditioned hotel room.<div> </div><div>The gourmet kitchen (all units have them) glistened in my eyes with granite counters, Subzero refrigerators (all except the studios) and fantastic gidgets, gadgets and useful items that I might only dream of having in my kitchen at home. Although I only know how to cook a Caesar salad, when I dream about having a gourmet kitchen I also dream that I can cook! :) <div><br /></div><div>There are so many things to talk about, but I'll leave you with 2 very important bits of information. The food at Wai'Olu oceanview bar was fun and frisky (mouthwatering) and the drink menu dazzled my libation gene. I have committed to return on a Friday night, to sample more Liquid Creations at Wai'Olu and watch the Friday Waikiki Fireworks. Last but not least, is how close the beach is to the Trump Waikiki. It's always a question in my mind since I am a sun goddess and I know that many of our clients some to Hawaii to enjoy the beach/sun. Trump provides you with a beach bag, towels and water and then you take a 5 minute walk to the beach where the "beach concession" has lounges/umbrellas for rent at a very very reasonable price. Waikiki Beach is NOT a quiet beach, it's very much about people watching, including surfers, stand up board surfers, hawaiian outrigger canoes, sailing catamarans and more. The ocean is 20 shades of blue, delightful to take a swim in. </div><div><br /></div><div>I would like to ask you to call us, here in Hawaii, to reserve your Trump Waikiki vacation and let us help you with all of your Hawaii, Tahiti and Fiji travel plans. All the rooms are suites at the Kealani, and I LOVE these suites (Signature) with the extra square footage in the suite, the bigger balconies and more views! I especially love laying in the comfy bed looking out to a perfect Wailea ocean and listening to the sound of the waves on the shore. I have been here for 3 nights with many of my staff and their families for our annual company weekend. We call it our McCoy Travel holiday party, always planned in January after the holiday rush before the winter rush (February - Spring Break). It's a perfect time of the year with cooler nights, less wind, flawless mornings and spectacular sunsets. Oh, and the whales!<br />We all enjoyed mouth watering dinner at Ko's on Friday night. It is great to have everyone together including the kids. We spent Saturday and Sunday lounging around the pools, swimming and listening to the humpback whales song under water and letting the stress of the last very busy 4 weeks just melt away. On Sunday morning, I rented a kayak and ventured out on the placid ocean hoping for a whale encounter of the close kind :) A mom and baby did come by fairly close to me and it was a thrill. Sea kayaking on sit on top kayaks in the morning hours here is stellar. I had 2 excellent turtle sitings and gave my upper body a good work out (my arms are sore today!).<br />Last night I enjoyed Nick's Fish Market and met fantastic people at the bar. Nick's is known for creative food and amazing service. It never fails, that I meet the most fun and wonderful people whenever I go in. I order the "original" escargot (it's not on the menu, you have to ask for it by name). Soaked in garlic butter with a pastry puff over the top. Yum Yum (I just got hungry again).<br />Well, it's time to head to the office. We say, a bad day on Maui is better than a good day anywhere else! Going to work, although we are so very busy these days, is a joy.<br />In the "old days" they use to say Maui No Ka Oi ( Maui is the best). Now they call Maui the Magical Isle. These both work for me and have for 35 years. From the ocean to the top of Haleakala at 10,000 feet, and everything inbetween, this is a lovely island in a stunning chain of Islands. I've been enjoying this alluring resort since 1990 and I consider it one of the most unique resorts in Hawaii and even the South Pacific. My first longer stay (that was 3 nights), was my honeymoon in January 1991. Prior to and after that, we did the usual, when you live on Maui, you usually go to Hana for 1-2 nights at the most. I've enjoyed many 2 night stays at the Hotel between 1991 and 2010. I am a BIG FAN of the Sea Ranch Cottages w/ jacuzzi spa on the deck. The best ones are the 2 bedroom oceanfront suites w/ jacuzzi tub for a family or 2 couples.<br />The bed and pillows are so comfortable, that one morning I could not peel myself out of bed until 8am (I usually get up at 6am or earlier). I would rate the bed at a 10! Room service was fast and delicious. I enjoyed one dinner (fabulous preparation of fresh fish and fresh vegies), and one breakfast (eggs benedict with fish.. my FAVORITE). YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY. As usual the staff in the dining rooms were friendly and attentive and the wine selection made my mouth water! I enjoyed a 2004 Heitz CabSav over a 2 night period. As they say in Hawaii, "Broke the mouth"! On Friday nights, the staff of the Hotel perform Hawaiian song and dance for the guests (a dinner show). The old timer ladies are so much fun to watch. Every night, except Friday, there is Live Hawaiian music in the Paniolo Bar from 6:30-8:30. That would be the only thing I would change. Keep the music playing at least until 9:30!<br />THIS stay, was beyond a shadow of a doubt, the most delightful, relaxing and FUN ever. Somewhat of a Sabbatical (even though I did do some work), I managed to partake of many of the activities that YOU will want to enjoy when you come for more than 2 days (yes, you must come more than 2 nights!). 2 Thai Massages that are the very best. My therapist was Cynthia. I sit at a desk all day and really need to be stretched out. This is so relaxing and you are engaged in the process (versus just lying there being massaged). There is some of that too! I also enjoyed a Watsu water treatment, which is floating in water while you are being massaged and softly stretched. OMG for both of these treatments! The one hour horseback ride in the pastures in front of the Sea Ranch Cottages is gorgeous and just enough to make your bum a little sore (for someone who does not ride!). I went on a kayak/snorkel tour with Hana Bay Kayaks that was spectacular. The weather WAS stellar the whole 6 days I was there and the water as flat as a pancake! I've know Kevin Coates for years. My final big adventure was Maui Stables 3 hours horseback ride in Kipahulu. Not only is the scenery picture perfect, but the guide we had, Keone Smith, was a wealth of knowledge about Hawaiian history (some I had never heard before and I've lived here for 36 years... just as old Keone is!). Keone was witty, funny, cute, very interesting to listen to.. the perfect guide, the perfect day, the perfect Maui horseback ride! Well, honestly, the very last wonderful adventure was driving my cute little Miata back home to Kula with NO CARS in front of me. A beautifious day, convertible top down, the sound of the varied thrush birds in the trees, jungle breezes freshening my face and whispering, "be sure to come back soon, Melissa". As the owner of McCoyTravel.com, I stay at many many hotels in Hawaii (all islands), Tahiti and Fiji. This Hotel, this experience, ranks so high on my "experience richter scale", that I am writing my very first review on TripAdvisor in a long time! Hawaii is a wonderful place to visit with Maui being very much "The Magical Island", voted best island on earth by Conde Nast. And Hana, with it's healing, theraputic, rejuvenating energy, melts the stress away, puts a smile on your face and helps you once again discover the essence of YOU! Hotel Hana Maui embraces you, welcomes you, and welcomes you back "home". Aloha.. Although it's hard to tell what it is doing down there, at sea level, I have a pretty good idea. I can see the Pride of America (NCL) cruiseship in Kahului Harbor (yes, even from 3,500 way up here in Kula). Kahakuloa, off to the north, is as clear as a bell and the white foamy coastline tells us that surfers are happy today. Looking<br /><br /><br />northwest from here, I'm sure the humpback whales are frolicking in the pristine waters off Lahaina (and Lanai). For those of us who live in Hawaii, the island of Lanai offers us one of the most enchanting expressions of the Christmas spirit in Hawaii, The Four Seasons Lodge at Koele. Situated at approximately the 4,000 ft elevation on the top of Lanai, the Lodge at Koele's Great Hall is decorated richly and warmly and displays one of Hawaii's most stunning Christmas trees. I love this beach! It's a little protective cove that you can float in, snorkel in, kayak from out to watch turtles underneath your kayak or on shore (this area has "tons" of hawaiian green sea turtles that drag themselves on shore to "sun"). Dragging your beach chair or chaise into the water to sit on is FUN. PERFECT for small children. And they have beach "drink" service too. Brown's Restaurant is one of the nicest locations in Hawaii for dining. You are a stones throw from the ocean. Guess who I ran into walking back to my hotel from an Earth Wind and Fire concert at the really NEAT Waikoloa Nights concert venue? Well, it WAS some of Earth Wind and Fire! The traffic was so backed up trying to get out of the parking lot, that even members of the band hoofed it back to the hotel with guitars strung on their backs. Silly me, asked if they played music locally! It would never have occured to me that the band would be walking on the same sidewalk as me. Here we are, after getting cleaned up, at <a href="http://www.alohadestinations.com/hawaii/resorts/waikoloa_beach_marriott.html">Waikoloa Marriotts</a> evening cocktail venue, Hawaii Calls. I asked them if I could buy them a drink for "bragging" rights :) I've never been a band groupie (a resort groupie yes). But I could NOT pass up this opportunity. Their concert was so much fun. Rita and Arnie and I danced away (Rtia works for Waikoloa Golf and Arnie is the GM for Roy's in the Kings Shops). So here, finally, almost a year later... just because I have started this Blog, I'm sharing some of my travel history. The next morning I went on an amazing Helicopter Adventure over the Big Island's active volcano. My next Blog will be about that adventure... And remember, this IS a commercial for <a href="http://www.mccoytravel.com/">McCoyTravel.com</a>, here in Hawaii. We are a neat fun bunch of experienced Dream Weavers for your next fabulous vacation to Hawaii, Fiji, Tahiti.. the World. 1-800-256-4280. However... I cannot imagine being any other place!<br />Sheraton Tahiti had many Christmas trees in a “fund raising christmas tree decorating contest” so the lobby and general feel was festive. We had a little rain... Off I flew to Raiatea to take a boat to Tahaa Private Island.. more rain, However.. When You see the photos that I took in Tahaa you will see why I just about cried 2 times with joyful thanksgiving for being in one of the most GORGEOUS bungalows in Tahiti. The feel, the view of the main island of Tahaa and more. The Tahaa pictures, even thought not sunny, will dazzle you. Helicopter to Bora Bora Nui (very neat) ...more rain, 2 hours of some sun. This resort is a winner all the way around. They are warm and fuzzy around here! Christmas eve is the celebration with a special Mgrs cocktail party and great dancing by .. The dancers.<br />I was invited to join the Rooms Mgr and his wife and Pool Manager for dinner. Lovely, fun, incredible french wine ... We laughed a lot and I’m assured that life is very very good.<br />Today.. more rain! So I’m doing postcards, christmas cards. and doing LOTS of photo/video uploading. Room service breakfast. Massage in my room at 5pm (I think!).<br />Tomorrow is to the Bora Bora Pearl and then 2 nights at Moorea Pearl. The spa menu’s at both of the properties look fabulous. Even with rain, it’s so very lovely here. There is lots of space here now. I think they sold out for New Years.<br />Okay.. Back to writing postcards.<br />Hope you all are having a beautiful day and week.<br />Love MelissaMelissa McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931706480199449197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7851123797309639284.post-80983975138984322292002-10-05T13:48:00.000-10:002008-04-17T09:49:33.579-10:00Sheraton Moorea Lagoon Tahiti Birthday 2002Incredibly gorgeous - we are in a OW Sunset view Bungalow<br />Ia Orana and welcome to our last day in paradise....<br />At this moment.. I am face to face with the Onehuo Bay framed by Moorea's sculptured mountains as I sit on our overwater bungalow deck. The sky is pink with hues of sunrise, rays of light are dancing on the water's surface and I could not pick a more incredibly beautiful place to spend our final morning in these scented isles. Writing about all of this crystallizes it in my mind... the color, the beauty, the fragrant flowers.<br />When we left Tikehau yesterday, it was a rainy day with flat ocean surrounding our motu in the Atoll of Tikehau. There were many departures and we filled the tiny little airport to overflowing once we all arrived by boat and van. In a short 3 days we have made several friends that we enjoyed chatting with at the airport. For some reason, they like to get you to the airport well over an hour in advance. We were thinking that 30 minutes would be more than adequate. No worries.... it gave us time to say our farewells, exchange email addresses and cards and watch the video we had taken. The band boys at Tikehau were incredible with Ukulele that sounded like a mandolin with the fastest fingers in the South Pacific (the review of Tikehau will be posted after this one). The Band Boys were also the airport baggage assistants so we talked in sign language (neither knew the other's language) and they bestowed upon us many more shell leis. In Tahiti, it is traditional to receive a flower lei on arrival... and a shell lei on departure. In the culture here, the goal is to weigh you down with shell leis when you depart. Susan and I were not weighed down but we had about 8 shell leis each. In comparison to Hawaii.... sad farewells can find someone buried to their eyeballs with flower leis. It has been a delightful experience for Susan and I to compare our own islands of Hawaii and their culture to these beautiful french polynesian islets and their culture.<br />Our flight was on Air Tahiti (I love their planes) with very nice flight attendants and cabin service (on flights over 30 minutes). I hadn't had a coke for days so I purchased one .... with ice! As we moved away from the Tuamotu island group, the skies cleared and the slick calm ocean below gave a hint of things to come. Just a few minutes from Papeete, Tahiti... I noticed a very inviting Atoll. Upon landing and checking in to Air Moorea to fly to our final destination of the day, Moorea, I found out that the inviting Atoll was none other than Tetiaroa, Marlon Brando's island. In my normal travel agent way.... I picked the woman's brain for pricing, how do you get there, is there air conditioning (ha!) and... is there electricity. It looks like a real unique polynesian experience with no creature comforts.... perfect perfect perfect white powder sand and nature (au sauvage). Our puddle jumper to Moorea lasted all of 6 minutes and we were greeted by Winston.... who speaks all languages but English (we have run into much of this). It turns out they really know enough english to understand and relay important information. We hijacked Winston to take us shopping at the "White House" which is the coolest little shop on Moorea if you like curios, and an incredible array of pareos. Susan and I have been on this Pareo thing for the last few days. The materials here are so colorful and vibrant that we have been envisioning ourselves remaking our wardrobe.... in essence... transforming ourselves into polynesian beauties! Well... we can dream about it anyway! We both love clothes with "MOI" winning the prize for diversity in purchasing.<br />Upon arrival yesterday, at the Sheraton Moorea Lagoon Resort, we enjoyed cool damp towelettes, pineapple juice, a nice fresh flower lei (delivered by a very tattooed gentleman). We were taken to our Overwater Bungalow #95 with sunset view. After a brief review of the room amenities, we headed off to get acclimated to the hotel. The Boutique visit was exciting as we saw some good options for fashion consumption today. Te Mana from Tahiti and TAV from the Cook Islands. Susan and I are already the proud owner of many TAV dresses and pareo but you can never get too much of a good thing (I think!). We enjoyed a cocktail at the bar that lives out on the boardwalk that leads to all overwater bungalows. We thought this was an extremely insightful fine touch not only because of the convenience but .... it is the only one we have seen in all of our travels here. We then went to Mandara Spa to arrange for the services we would enjoy today. Susan is going to enjoy The Exotic Island Facial and Natural Aromatic Hair Bath. I am going to die and go to heaven with The Moorea Indulgence which is 2 1/2 hours of the ultimate pampering. It begins with a Moana footbath, followed by a vanilla body wash and exotic coconut body scrub. Then I will relax in an aromatic Jacuzzi bath while I am served ginger tea and fresh fruit. The experience will end with a full 1 hour body massage and mini facial. I have asked them to throw in a little Heaven and Earth (why not) which is called Ra'i e Fenua, a combination of reflexology that focuses on the head and feet. We will enjoy these today before we have a quick bite to eat and head off to the airport for our 8:30pm flight. The red eye back to Hawaii.<br />The Sunset was enjoyed on our overwater deck with fresh pineapple daiquiris. I could not resist a quick dip off of our deck. The water is not deep enough to dive and has a fair amount of coral which can be a bit challenging for a good swim. My version of "a swim" is the breast stoke and floating on my back so it all worked out okay. The colors of the sunset were the best we had seen so far on the trip and the scene was delightful with the mountains coming alive with sunset hues. We went up to the bar to listen to the band boys (they have such incredible musicians here) and met 14 year old Gertrude who played the one string base and sang in the band (her brother is the band leader). Cute beyond words, she came over to introduce herself and giggled continuously as she asked us 1,000 questions and exclaimed how much she loved to speak english. What a doll! Dinner was served with tropical flair... the presentation and flavors fantastic. The menu at dinner was inviting and the deserts that kept coming by our table made us change our minds ever few minutes about how we were going to end our last dinner in Tahiti. We decided on the trio of creme brulee.... pineapple, vanilla and coconut. Mmmmmm yum!<br />Let me explain our room to you. The fabric used in the interior is ordinary (they did not consult me before they did their buying!) but there are some other fine touches that are unique and very very enjoyable. There is no glass table top - only a 2X6 piece of glass on the floor with the most magnificent fish viewing. There is a lot of live coral here and fishes that are varied, colorful and the best we have seen in the whole 2 weeks we have been in Tahiti. The king bed is very comfortable but the pillows leave some room for improvement. I would most definitely order the goose down pillows from the "pillow menu". You can order pillows for no additional cost. There are all sorts of pillows for neck and back "issues" so if you have special pillow needs... you HAVE found your island in the sun... Okay, the bathroom. There are wooden blinds that open so the bathroom and bedroom almost become one. The claw foot tub has YOUR name on it (at least it did ours) and Susan and I have both taken our turns lavishing in the bathroom tub ambiance. There are a lot of dark woods and you almost feel like you are on a ship (luxury yacht of course!). Behind the sink is a little glass shelf you can see the lagoon below and open to view or feed fish. There are also louvres you can open for even more lagoon viewing - while you brush your teeth.<br />You are equipped with snorkel gear in the room (although beach towels must be obtained at the beach shack). All rooms have Air conditioning. We have not site inspected the other rooms but we did site inspect the CANOE BREAKFAST. It is a perfect setting to enjoy it. The canoe breakfast here comes with tahitian marinated raw fish. Stay tuned as we are going to find out if this can be altered based on personal preference..<br />Today we are renting a car and driving to the dress shop that we ordered 3 dresses (picked our material and were fitted) while we were in Moorea on the Paul Gauguin. Then we will proceed to visit the Moorea Beachcomber to site inspect and then go on the Dolphin Quest shallow water experience. Then it is pearl shopping and back to the hotel to enjoy our spa services. We have our day cut out for us.<br />Until the final review and other insights.... we remain.... in the magical isles of French Polynesia.Melissa and SusanMelissa McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931706480199449197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7851123797309639284.post-79504934216599670602002-10-02T14:47:00.000-10:002008-04-17T09:48:25.773-10:00In Love with Tahaa Pearl Beach ResortIa Orana and greetings from the most beautiful resort we have found so far in our journeys in Tahiti.. We got up early today, Sept 30, at our resort on Bora Bora... overwater bungalow at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort. After breakfast, we enjoyed massages in our Fare before packing and heading off to the airport, by boat. A short 10 minute flight from Bora Bora... we arrived on Raiatea, Tahiti's cultural and spiritual Island.<br />As I gaze at the "vanilla isle" from our motu resort - surely one of the wonders of the south pacific... the Tahaa Pearl Beach Resort. This resort sits on a motu... a small island that sits off of the main island of Tahaa. Let me see if I can give you an accurate account. To get here you fly to Raiatea. A 3 minute drive to the small boat harbor (where the Moorings boats are) and you are ready to head off to the Motu off of Tahaa. While we waited for our boat to leave for the resort (oh those unexpected delays), I fell in love with the little restaurant there at the Raiatea small boat harbor. It is very french with 2 big great danes to pet and talk to (if you miss your animals).... The menu looked "fabulous" and the Poisson Cru was the Chinese variety (we have learned) which has garlic and ginger in it. Oh yes... the boat ride to our little motu is a bit rough... and about 20 minutes +. Is it worth it all? If I could shout YES from French Polynesia you would hear it across the globe.<br />Okay... here is the scene.... I am sitting on our deck (Susan is in the hammock on the beach)... This deck, on our Tahaa View overwater bungalow, is to die for. This place is for lovers .... honeymooners.... romantics looking for ambiance of the south pacific kind. We arrived last evening in the dark and walked the long walkway to our Fare.... Sweet beyond compare so far in our travels... There is a huge picture window in front of the king size bed.. the side sliding glass window opens to a huge panoramic view to the left of the bed. The long glass table at the end of the bed opens to feed the little fishes - that are drawn to the light. There is a CD player, a bathtub that has a mirror that lets you see the view through the Fare... a natural stone/slate shower, 2 elevated sinks... polynesian petroglyph type carvings in the wood.... The HUGE picture window in front of the bed.... (did I say that twice). What a view - straight on... to the turquoise lagoon that surrounds this idyllic motu...<br />I have taken a zillion pictures of the horizon pool, hammocks that are waiting to have us relax on them... the swim up bar.. the lagoon calling us to swim, swim, swim.... Don't get me wrong, this is not heaven... it is just the next best thing to heaven! I kid you not.... The day begins with eyes opened wide at about 5am... The moon is glistening on the water - stars twinkling... I had to go out and relax in the most incredibly comfortable lounges ever enjoyed by a human body. You can bring up your knees, adjust your head.... and Susan meandered out to join me with blankets in hand and we watched the Paul Gauguin quietly move past our sweet delightful perfectly orchestrated resort in the soft pastel hours of early am... in French Polynesia. Soft moon beams... stars glistening... the lavishly beautiful green island of Tahaa in view. As the sun rose the sky turned pink.... and sure enough... it was time to take a dip. Brrrrrr.... not the warm bathtub water of summer but refreshing and.. well... refreshing.... Susan and I then put in about 30 minutes of power walking so we "keep in shape" in paradise. About 7:30 am our canoe breakfast arrived - continental with luscious fruits, french breads, fresh juice... All decorated with the most deliciously colored hibiscus - our outdoor table looked like a festive occasion... That brings me to the deck.... The deck is huge... room for 2 lounges with lots of room to spare. One of the features that we love about our deck is the covered little breakfast nook... And... it has a fan to use during the summer months when it is a bit warmer. Very insightful... as are so many things we are seeing here at the Tahaa Pearl Beach Resort.Melissa McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931706480199449197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7851123797309639284.post-19829592950836553102002-09-30T07:46:00.000-10:002008-04-17T09:55:06.902-10:00Ia Orana from Paradise....<br />Sadly, our Paul Gauguin Cruise has ended and we disembarked at 8am on 28Sept. We met some really nice people and I even learned how to say thank you very much in Ilicano (a Filipino dialect)... Malaming Salamat. The Filipino staff were awesome on the ship. Friendly, attentive and really sweet. As Susan and I embark on the land portion of our "program"... we cannot help but compare food, service and a variety of other details with the resorts we are staying at.<br />We were driven to the Papeete airport where we struggled with the ATM machine. Susan's debit card did not work and I had forgotten my PIN. Ah.... do not forget your PIN. You can tell that I do not use my ATM card too much. I usually save it for international vacations so I can get the local currency, instead of standing in line at the bank. I'm really not sure at this moment if the rate of exchange is better or worse if you use your ATM (mine is attached to my credit card) or exchange US $$. What I have found in the past is that US currency is better than travelers checks (for exchange purposes). We all know the benefits of travelers checks in case of $ being lost or stolen. Always make sure that you keep your travelers checks # list separate from your travelers checks. While I am at it (here is the travel agent in me) ... make sure that you make copies of your airline tickets and passport - keep one in a separate place in your luggage (from the real thing) and keep one at home with someone who you could contact if you needed copies NOW.Tip #2.... for your ship experiences and resort experiences .... pack an inflatable floatation device and water shoes/tivas. This goes for the South Pacific or.... anywhere you might find yourself enjoying warm weather, beaches, reefs, etc.<br />Okay off we go flying to Magical Bora Bora. Our plane made a U turn over glistening turquoise waters to make a perfect landing on the tiny airstrip on a "motu". A "motu" is a small sand island. Boats are lined up at the airport's dock to take the passengers to either their hotel or to the main dock in Vaitape, Bora Bora's main town. Our first hotel is the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort. We arrived at the resort to a warm welcome, fresh juice and a cool towelette. The grounds of the hotel are beautifully landscaped and the common areas were huge areas made of mostly natural woods, bamboo and reed. We were in our overwater bungalow by 10am. We unpacked and made it down the ladder to take a swim in the inviting water below. We were in a shallow overwater bungalow. Our bungalow had a bathtub and glass shower, 2 sinks and an enclosed toilet closet. Our large king bed was kindly made into twins, we had a glass top table you could slide back and feed the fish, a lounging couch, TV (not sure what you can get on it), telephone (calls to the US were about $3 a minute), coffee/tea making facilities, a safe (which I actually used), a writing desk and two lounges on our overwater deck. (NOTE: At the end of our ON LOCATION Reviews, I will give some insight about the fact that.... all overwater bungalows are not created equal. Also a little dissertation on Meal Plan versus no Meal Plan.) Susan and I ordered room service.... champagne and a cheese platter. We got hooked on cheese while on the Paul Gauguin (we were also hooked on cheese during our trip to France 2 years ago), so we wanted to continue the tradition. The champagne, Landon, was not bad at all. It was the least expensive (and things ARE expensive in Tahiti and we were having sticker shock after getting off the ship and NOW having to pay for everything.. even water). Our room service waiter was very friendly. There was a little communication problem (but this happened often in our travels here) and the staff's friendliness paled in comparison to the Paul Gauguin. The music in the lounge was french karioke.... a gentleman playing pre-recorded background music and playing sax or singing to it. The Bora Bora Lagoon Resort has 80 bungalows total including 36 Overwater, 14 Pontoon Overwater (premium). Many of the beachfront bungalows should be reclassified as Garden as they sit back too far from the ocean. Especially those on the left of the pier when you arrive. There is one pool suite that is beachfront that is really sweet and I would recommend.<br />The next day Susan and I rented a put put car (similar to Disneyland's Utopia cars) and circumnavigated the island (about 40 minutes total drive time) and site inspected several hotels. This IS supposed to be a vacation!!! Susan loves to site inspect hotels with me - it's fun and informative and she tells her clients about everything she learns (she is a skin care specialist). Our first exploration is the Haumana Cruise, which just happens to be at dock. I am not sure if my office has ever sold the Haumana but it has always made me curious. I am now committed to enjoying her 7 day itinerary before another 6 months are up. With 19 cabins this luxury power catamaran offers unique options daily between Bora Bora, Tahaa and Huahine. Most of the cabins are outside (but not all) and have big picture windows. The common area is laid out very nicely with big couches. This IS the best way to get to know this area and the tahitian culture. It is an intimate way to get to know this area of Tahiti and her people. The menu looked fantastic too. They are bringing in 2 other luxury small ships that will go into service in April.<br />We hopped in our car and continued to the Moana Beachcomber Hotel at Matira Bay. This is a huge lagoon area with the Hotel Bora Bora on the other side of the point. We were very pleasantly suprised. The property has a total of 64 Bungalows. All Bungalows have A/C. All Overwater Bungalows were actually Junior Suites - recently renovated to a very high standard. In the bathroom you will enjoy live vanilla vines draped overhead. It is a nice touch and adds a sense of the outdoors. There are 2 TV's in the bedroom and sitting room. 2 Suites hold a maximum of 8 people. The hotel offers 3 shows a week, Tues, Thurs and Sat with buffets or special menus. The water is perfectly turquoise and all non-motorized ocean sports are free. They even have water lounge mats to use (a great feature we have discovered). The hotel offers a once a day complimentary shuttle to the main town area - which is about 10-15 minutes away. In 2003 they are putting a Spa and Gym that will be open 24 hours a day. They are also installing DVD/CDs in all Bungalows in 2003. It seemed like a great property with a fantastic location and lots to do.<br />Sofitel Marara - common area site inspection only (no rooms available to see). Susan and I were not particularly impressed too much with the Sofitel Marara. The overwater were all very close to shore and close to the road behind it. The road on Bora Bora is fairly busy in French Polynesia terms. Especially with scooters and put put cars that sound like lawn mowers. We did not see the interiors - although the brochures make them look lovely. The outdoor dining looks very nice. The beach was not powder white sand (which is not as uncommon here as you might think). This property has a total of 64 Bungalows, 21 overwater, 11 beach bungalows, 32 garden bungalows. All bungalows have air conditioning. Bungalow #62 looked like it was the deepest and had it's own little covered overwater gazebo. None of the overwater bungalows looked inviting to get into the water from your overwater deck. This is an observation since we were not able to go into any of the bungalows. If you stay at the Sofitel Marara you can go over and use the facilities, snorkeling and beach on the Motu.<br />Sofitel Motu - Common area site inspection only as no rooms were available. You get to Sofitel Motu by coming through the lobby from the Sofitel Marara. It is a short 7 minute ride to the Motu. As we approached, it looked very inviting. We climbed the stairs up to reception area to be very warmly greeted by Hostess. The reception and dining area was a warmly decorated round building with a great view. The patio at the entrance had a small waterfall and water area with water lillies. There are about 3 little beaches on the Motu. The sand was white and the lagoon blue as far as the eye could see. The overwater had a sunning deck just off of the main outdoor deck (which I thought was brilliant). There are 20 overwater bungalows which all look inviting to me. It appeared to us, without going inside, that Bungalows 128, 129 and 130 had the most privacy and view of Bora Bora. #129 looked the absolute best. There are also 10 Deluxe Bungalows on the hillside (I had heard that they were treehouses but they are not.... but have stunning views through the trees). It actually looks like only 7 are completed. #101-103 have sunset views (facing west) and #104-#107 face the sunrise. All bungalows have air conditioning. There is no pool on the Motu but you can use the one at the Sofitel Marara.<br />Le Meridien Bora Bora... The boat ride to the resort takes about 20 minutes from the Bora Bora airport. It is a stunning location with powder white sand. There are 85 overwater bungalows .. several of which are Premium overwater - at the end of the walkway and most private. The 15 Beach bungalows are situated around a perfect lagoon. There is no air conditioning in the overwater bungalows (it is coming in 2003). The Beach bungalows DO have air conditioning. When you walk into the overwater bungalows you walk onto a glass floor about 8ft x 6ft. This is really taking the glass top table to the next degree. The interior design was warm woods with many native touches. The bathroom had elevated sinks (european style) and 2 suspended mirrors framed with drift wood. The deep bathtub was right next to the large louvered window, looking out over the bay. The outdoor deck offered stunning views of turquoise and aqua lagoons with inviting waters beckoning you to climb down the stairs and immerse yourself in the picture perfect water. Yes.... I would like to come back and stay here. The resort has a turtle rescue program. In the Resort's lagoon, you can snorkel with the turtles. They offer some excellent marine education and appear to have the most comprehensive eco-sensitive resort in Bora Bora. The view from the resort is stunning. It is the largest resort in Bora Bora but not by much. They have more room than any other resort we visited so spreading out is easy. You do not feel cramped (as we experienced at other properties).<br />FUTURE: Word has it the the Beachcomber is going to build a resort next to the Le Meridien. It is supposed to be completed in 2005.<br />Hotel Bora Bora - On Matira Lagoon and the most famous and elegant of the Bora Bora resorts (do I sound like a commercial), we were fortunate enough to enjoy lunch at this fine property and site inspect a Beach Villa. Right off the bat we were impressed with the Boutique. It has gotten to be one of our first stops at all resorts in search of the perfect pareo or other items we cannot live without. Most of the boutiques have not captured our attention but this high quality store almost sent us out of the resort with reduced assets. Lunch was delicious and well presented in their tropical elegant open air dining area. Below our dining venue there existed what would have been one of our hang outs if we were staying here... the beach bar. It is a picture perfect setting and, at the moment, THE sunset beach resort. With only 54 Bungalows, it is not only elegant but private. There are only 15 overwater bungalows, 5 of these are deep water with 2 tier sundecks leading directly into the lagoon. Overwater bungalows have 4 poster king beds. All rooms feature old fashioned type ball-and-claw bathtubs. There are 8 villas, Beach and Garden, that come with private swimming pools.Melissa McCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931706480199449197noreply@blogger.com
